Success Story
Meet our wonderful Sinbad!!
This little fellow was found the same day and at the same location as Faith (story below). He was much harder to catch but finally I got him and thank goodness. He had bit marks both above and below his right eye. This had caused him to not only lose sight in that eye but also caused a deadly infection that made the whole side of his head swell. Dr. Glen Campbell said the infection alone would have killed him within the week. He was immediately put on antibiotics and his eye was stitch closed so it could start healing. The first picture below shows him after his first surgery & believe me he looks much better there then he did when I found him!!
At first extremely timid he soon became my sweet baby. I would hold him and he would just melt in my arms. The second picture shows him all healed but with an open eye socket. After being told that was probably a little uncomfortable for him and that he would feel better after one more surgery it was back to Dr. Campbell. Dr. Campbell removed what remained of his eyeball (which was now covered with muscle) and stitched his eye closed. However, even before his last surgery a special lady came forward and knew she was to give Sinbad his “forever home”. She just had to wait a couple weeks while he recovered and he was all hers. In the last picture you see Sinbad now at his new home with his new look. I miss him everyday but am so thankful to God that he has a wonderful home of his very own!!
Success Story
Meet Bandit, our cute little bunny rabbit!!
Why is he also known as "bunny rabbit"? Because his back legs are longer than his front two & that gives him a little hop.
This is common in Manx cats, which he is.
Bandit was taken to a local vet to be "put down" b/c he was not perfect.
The vet just could not put him down & asked me if I would take him, which I did.
Bandit has a very loving and sweet personality..loves to play!!
He has no tail and is suffering from Manx syndrome. Manx syndrome cats many times
have issues controlling their bowels & bladder.
Bandit tends to leak when he walks but it is never much.
Other than the bowel/bladder issue he is a very healthy little boy.
I let him outside everyday now here and he loves it!! He never goes far and always comes when called..he does not climb very well so at night he comes into the shelter & sleeps in a big cage.
WHAT A DELIGHT THIS BOY IS!!
Success Story
Our beautiful Faith, with an enormous will to survive.
I received a call from a concerned citizen about a colony of cats that seemed to have no-one taking care of them. When I went to the location I found over 30 cats/kittens that were beyond hungry. As soon as I took the food out of my truck they came from all directions running and crying. Once I fed them and they settled down I heard a very distressed cry.
I found this beautiful little baby. She was laying on her side trying to crawl to where the food was but not getting anywhere. When I approached her she was very scared and tried to get away from me but could not. I picked her up and put her into a carrier in my truck.
This beautiful little girl was only a couple months old and had been attacked. She had bite marks, 2 broken legs & a shattered hip. I did not know the full extent of her injuries until I got her to the vet and was told she probably would not make it through her first surgery.
This little girl surprised us all and not only made it through her first surgery but made it through a total of 3 separate surgeries. It was a rough first month with her, she could do nothing for herself but soon learned she did not have to worry about anything.....I took care of all her needs.
She is now doing great!! She walks with a limp but that does not slow her down a bit. She runs, plays and does not let any of the other cats at
Success Story
This is Charlotte & her babies Rosco, Angel & Snowball.
A lady found them in the woods behind her house last July & called Athens Little Darlings.
This was the first mom and litter of Athens Little Darlings.
They are all doing great in their adopted homes.
Success Story
The first of Athens Little Darlings!!
A nice lady brought the babies to the local Humane Society after she realized their mom had been hit by a car. The Humane Society called me to see if I could take them.
They were only days old and needed around the clock bottle feedings & lots of love. They could really do nothing on their own and their eyes were still shut. It was touch and go with a couple of them but they all pulled through and were adopted into loving homes!!
Success Story
Who says you cannot turn a "stray" kitten into a wonderful & loving pet??!!
This is Tortie. I found her living in a feral cat colony right outside of
I was feeding them everyday and everyday Tortie would run when I would try and pick her up.
But giving up is not in my nature and from the second I saw her I fell in love.
It took some work but slowly I started getting her use to me and then one day when I saw she had a deep cut I packed her up and off to the vets office we went.
She was ok, just needed a little medicine and some TLC.
When I brought her back to the shelter she was not at all happy. It took about 2 full weeks before she started to relax. I held her at least twice a day (which she was not happy about) and I gave her as much love as possible.
I would rub her little head & I remember the first time (after a couple wks) when I just saw her body relax and she seemed to realize "hey, this is not so bad after all".
What a great day that was!!!!! She made lots of friends here & now has her very own "forever home". She was a challenge but was more than worth it....What a pure delight Tortie was here and I am sure is everyday in her new home!!
